What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is a prescription weight loss injection for adults who are obese, or overweight with certain weight-related health issues such as pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.

Wegovy contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which helps to regulate food cravings and make you feel fuller after eating.

Who can get Wegovy?

Wegovy can be prescribed to people who have:

A BMI (body mass index) of 30 kg/m² or higher (obesity)

A BMI between 27 and 30 kg/m² (overweight) combined with a weight-related health condition, such as:

– High cholesterol

– High blood pressure

– Pre-diabetes

– Heart problems

Benefits of Wegovy

Wegovy offers significant benefits for weight management by actively reducing appetite and food cravings, thanks to its active ingredient, semaglutide.

This works by helping you feel fuller for longer periods, ultimately making it easier to consume less and leading to substantial weight loss, with users potentially losing up to 15% of their starting body weight.

How does Wegovy work?

Wegovy injections contain semaglutide, a substance that mimics a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1
(glucagon-like peptide-1). This hormone is released after you eat and plays a key role in:

Making you feel fuller

It sends signals to your brain, reducing your appetite.

Controlling blood sugar

While not a diabetes treatment, it helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Slowing digestion

Food stays in your stomach longer, helping you feel satisfied for an extended period and reducing the urge to overeat or
snack.

Taking Wegovy once a week helps maintain a consistent level of semaglutide in your body, so you feel fuller throughout
the week.

How Long Does Wegovy Take to Work?

Many people start to feel fuller after eating by their second or third dose. However, individual responses vary. You might begin to see Wegovy weight loss results as early as 12 weeks into treatment.

If you haven’t experienced
significant weight loss after 6 months, it’s a good idea to discuss alternative treatment options with your doctor.

How to use Wegovy?

How to Use Wegovy Pens

For Wegovy to be effective, you must take it once a week as part of a comprehensive weight loss plan that includes a
healthy diet and regular exercise.

When prescribed Wegovy, you’ll typically start on a lower dose for the first month. Your dose will then be gradually
increased each month (if you respond well) until you reach the maximum dose around month 5 of your treatment.

How to Inject Wegovy

Before you begin, thoroughly read the patient information leaflet provided with your Wegovy and follow all instructions
from your doctor.

When you’re ready for your first dose, follow these steps:

1. Wash your hands

2. Choose your injection site

You can inject into your lower abdomen or thigh. The upper arm can also be used with assistance. Clean the chosen area
with an alcohol swab or soap and water.

3. Check your pen

the name and dose to ensure it matches your prescription. Look through the pen window to confirm the liquid is clear and
colorless.

4. Attach the needle

Remove the pen cap and firmly push a new needle onto the pen, turning until it’s tight. Pull off the outer and inner
needle caps.

5. Flow check

only need to check the flow the first time you use a new pen. Each pen provides 4 weekly doses.

6. Select your dose

Turn the dose selector until the dose counter displays your prescribed dose.

7. Inject

Insert the needle into your skin, avoiding veins or muscles. Make sure you can see the dose counter.

8. Administer the dose

Step 1: Press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter shows ‘0’.

Step 2: Keep pressing the dose button with the needle in
your skin and slowly count to 6.

Step 3: You should hear a first and second click indicating the start and completion of the injection.

9. Remove and dispose

Carefully remove the needle from your skin. Place the outer needle cap back onto the needle before detaching it from the
pen. Dispose of the used needle in a sharps bin.

10. Store the pen

Replace the pen cap and store the pen out of sight and reach of children.

An opened pen can be stored for up to 28 days
at a temperature below 30°C or in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C), away from the cooling element.

Some extra advice:

– Store unopened injections in the fridge.

– Inspect your pen before use for any damage, such as if it’s been dropped.

– Avoid injecting into bruised, sore, hard, or scarred areas. Also, be careful not to inject into muscles or veins.

– Do not touch the needle cover to prevent accidental needle pricks.

– Do not attempt to stop the injection halfway through, as the needle locks once it starts.

– Rotate your injection site each week.

Wegovy Missed Dose

  • If you miss a dose by 5 days or less: Take the missed dose. Your next dose should be taken on your usual day, provided
at least 3 days have passed since your last injection.
  • If you miss a dose by more than 5 days: Skip that dose and take your next dose on your usual day and time.
  • Last dose more than 2 weeks ago: If more than 2 weeks have passed since your last dose, you must restart at the lowest
strength dose (0.25mg weekly) and follow the Wegovy dosage schedule again.

Want to change your injection day? You can change the day of the week you take Wegovy, as long as there are more than 3 days
between doses.

What Happens When You Stop Taking Wegovy?

There’s no risk of addiction or withdrawal symptoms when you stop Wegovy treatment. However, be aware that your appetite
will increase to normal levels once you stop using it. You’ll need to factor this into your plan to maintain your lower
weight.

Available Wegovy Dosages

– Wegovy 0.25mg

– Wegovy 0.5mg
